Leandro Miguel Cruz
Leandro was born in the Dominican Republic and was raised in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. Inspired by a museum trip with his mother and his love of comic books as a child, Leandro took up drawing and has never stopped.
Much of Leandro’s technique is self-taught, and after much coaxing from friends, he took a paintbrush to canvas and his love of painting began. Leandro sharpened his skills while attending courses at the Arts Students League.
Much of his art is categorized as abstract expressionism and cubism. His work is often compared to many of the great early modern artists. However, the Caribbean influence in theme and color reflect his own unique and powerful style.
Leandro has had many solo and group shows and his work has been purchased by collectors. Columbia Presbyterian Hospital commissioned a painting. Leandro has also won various awards such as being honored as one of ten exceptional artists in upper Manhattan at the Business and Community Summit in 2006 and designing the Uptown Arts Stroll poster for advertisement.
